On Monday December 15, 2008, the panel of experts met at the premises of the newspaper Ethnos, in order to select the winners of the 3 Awards and of the 3 Prizes of the International Cartoon Contest, namely "TV Ethnos CartoonAward 2008", organized by the TV magazine "TV Ethnos".
The panel of experts remarks the great international response to this contest, as proven by the large number of participants, both professional and amateur, from all over the world, as well as the high level of participations. The panel is expressing its wish that this effort be continued and be established as an institution.
The prizes chosen were awarded after a six hour deliberation an subsequent voting of the jury. Following the announcement of the decision of the jury, certain objections were received comparing some of the prizes with previously published cartoons of other cartoonists, suggesting they had been copied or plagiarized. These objections were seriously concidered by the jury. We emphasize that it is practically impossible to check with any degree of certainty the authenticity and origin of a given idea. Any similarity may indeed be the result of copying but, equally so, it may not. Ideas travel and, as it is often the case, they can be conceived by different people, at different places ant time . What makes them different in this case, and what counts in the end, is their individuality and power of form and communication. The jury, therefore, congratulates the winners once again and stands by its original decision.
